Building An Online Course

Well, here we are at week 2 of my class on building online courses.  I have ventured into the unknown world of Schoology.  I have used it from the student end with both of my children, but not from the instructor end.  I sometimes would be so frustrated at the lack of information provided for my kids.  Now, I see how time consuming put all the links and information into a LMS can be.

I did have to alter my resources to give more information so that the participants could complete the assignments.  I have my altered list of resources below.

The basic structure of my “Appy Hour” course is for the participants to view videos and read articles.  Then they are asked to post a discussion.  Finally, they are asked to create or use something that they have seen in that week.  The projects are very open ended, so the paricipants can use tools that they would use in their real classrooms.   Several weeks ask them to create for a current topic in their class, so hopefully they will go back and use the tool with their students.  Seeing how it works in the classroom will motivate them to go back and try new things with their students.
